Calcisilicate rock

Volcanic rocks are commonly altered by hot gases and fluids escaping from the original host lava (or magma). This sample is an example of alter vesicular basalt (now mostly limonite and silica) cut with a fracture filled with layers of quartz, calcite, and barite. From Morgan Hill area, Santa Clara County, California.
